I'm diving into my backlist to reignite my Book Hook mojo. This week's feature is A Magical Affair, a book I had so much fun writing!

Available here

Book Tagline:

A mansion sitting atop a wellspring of magic lets Romy, Heath, and Stacie live out their fantasies. Heath loves the opportunity, but he really wants one thing—for Romy to give up control and let him call the shots.

Blurb:

Romy Bludd and Heath Graystone are very adventurous and happily explore the wilder side of sex. Romy meets Jarvin and Vivica, who give her an opportunity to spend Halloween weekend at Magic Meadows, a mansion sitting atop an ancient wellspring of magic. Romy accepts the offer because she and Heath want to add someone else to the mix and Romy's best friend, Stacie, is back from a ten month stay abroad. The timing couldn't be better for the trio to live out their lustful fantasies.

The mansion and its owners are capable of wondrous transformations, giving Romy and Stacie a wealth of choices to rock Heath's world. A character from his favorite urban thriller, a cougar on the prowl, the plain librarian who wants to hook up with her boss, a roller derby diva with aggression issues, and a reporting duo with blackmail on their minds are on the agenda for the romp-filled weekend.

And an excerpt…

"You're sure about this?" Stacie Williams plopped down beside Romy Bludd. "Our friendship is more important than me having a weekend of super-hot sex with an awesome guy like Heath."
Romy smiled. "Stace, I'm okay because you're my best friend. Heath and I've had this fantasy for two years, and I had issues with bringing someone else in and not being able to control everything." She paused. "But I know you almost better than I know myself. You won't go over-the-top stalker, and you're not harboring any deep, unrequited love for Heath. You just appreciate his hard body and screaming good looks." Kicking her feet up onto the table, she shrugged. "You're not in a relationship at the moment, so no awkward trying to explain why you're traipsing off to a magical mansion for a Halloween weekend tryst—and don't want company."
Stacie grinned. "You're lucky I'm at loose ends and haven't had time to do more than look for a hookup." She propped her feet beside Romy's.
Romy frowned. "I can't believe you were gone for ten months. I missed you." She nudged Stacie's shoulder. "You're never allowed to take off for training abroad again."
Stacie laughed. "Think of it this way, you and Heath had plenty of time to work the kinks out and look at you now." She turned and faced Romy. "Rock solid and happier than I've ever seen you."
Romy shrugged. "He's everything I've ever wanted. It's scary good between us."
"Hence the crazy-ass weekend you have planned." Stacie tilted her head to the side. "Where did you find this place anyway?"
Romy's lips curved. "I got an invite from the owners when I went to inspect the place for their ad layout. We'll be their first trial run."
Stacie leaned in close. "And the magic? Do you think they can really create everything you want?"
Romy nodded. "Oh, yes. I really do."
Stacie shuddered. "God, I can't wait."
"Me either. How perfect, right? Halloween. Costumes, role-playing, and an entire wing all to ourselves." Romy grabbed a notebook from the table. "So help me come up with the best and kinkiest ideas to make this weekend a mind-blowing one for Heath."

That's it for this week's hook. I hope you enjoyed the preview.

Cheers!

I'm revisiting a current release, A Magical Affair, a fantasy ménage with lots of fun role-playing scenarios. Over the next few weeks, I'll post a few pivotal scenes between Heath, Remy, and Stacie.

This week, we have some interaction between Heath and Romy.

God, yes, she liked it—and wanted more. The potion Vivica concocted worked like a wonder. The experience of kissing Heath, something she'd done a million times, felt new and wondrous.
Flicking her tongue over her bottom lip, she said, "Yes, very much. Can we do it again?"
Heath smiled. "Absolutely."
He angled his head and used long, deep, slow kisses that let her explore what an unhurried buildup to passion could be like. Sliding his fingers through her hair, he mentioned she could do the same—then groaned when she used hers to massage his scalp.
He mumbled against her mouth. "That feels wonderful."
Romy grinned, thrilled she'd made him respond.
Heath moved her slowly through the disrobing process, giving Romy plenty of time to ask questions. His patient and honest answers gave her an insight she hadn't expected. He encouraged her to tell him when he did something she liked, and while shy at first, she got the hang of it quickly. She loved it when he ran his fingers down the front of her top after getting it unbuttoned. And when he kissed her shoulder when the blouse fluttered softly to the floor.
He slowed her down when she frantically tried to undo his shirt. "If you hold my gaze when you work on the buttons, I'll really like it."
She tried his suggestion and found the connection sensual. Reaching up, she slipped her fingers under his collar and pushed the fabric away from his shoulders. The contact with his warm skin had her pulse racing, and she tried to hurry getting his pants undone. Heath pulled back, stoking her with soothing words and plying her with ideas of how to slow things down on her own. She took his advice, loosening his belt slowly and removing it completely before starting on the button and zipper.
When she reached for his waistband, Heath stopped her again.
"Are you still certain you want to know everything?" His hand cupped her face.
Romy repeated her earlier request. "Yes. Everything."

A very satisfied Stacie smoothly rolled onto her side, one foot reaching over to graze Heath's leg. "Well, Heath." A small shudder went through her. "That certainly surpassed my expectations." Her hand dropped to his shoulder, her fingers trailing over the play of muscle on his bicep.
Heath angled his head toward her. "Mine, too." He snagged her lips for a kiss, then cupped her cheek. "How long will the transformation last?" His mouth grazed along her jawline.
Stacie chuckled. "Vivica assures me I'll be back to normal as soon as I exit your suite."
Heath met her gaze. "It's incredible, isn't it? I mean, geez Stace, you're one hot, uh… older woman."
Stacie waggled her eyebrows and nudged his shoulder. "I think the term you're looking for is cougar, Heath." She made a fist on his chest and propped her chin. "And seriously, if I look this good ten years from now, I want a repeat performance."
Heath barked out a laugh. "Stace, if you look as good in a decade—and you will—you'll have any hot, young stud you want." He eased out from under her and sat up, swinging his legs over the edge of the mattress. "By then, you won't wanna look twice in my direction."
Stacie snorted and rose up behind him, draping her arms over his shoulders. "Don't sell yourself short, Heath. Like I said, Romy's got excellent taste."

Jarvin's lips curved in a knowing smile. "Heath, your lovely Romy has some very specific things planned for your stay here. The Meadows is a remarkable place, sitting atop an ancient wellspring of magic." He paused when Heath narrowed his eyes. "I don't blame you for being skeptical, but please put aside your doubt." Jarvin turned and held out his hand. "Vivica, darling, let's show Heath what we can do."
A stunning blonde with an hourglass figure and a hot red dress came into view on the second floor. She smiled and started a slow walk from the end of the corridor leading toward the stairs. Before his eyes, she morphed from curvy to lean and leggy, wearing fuck-me heels and a sheer white negligee. Heath blinked, and when he looked again, her hair had changed to a shimmery black. Two steps later, she sported a short, cropped cut, dangly jewelry, and wore hiking boots with cutoff denim shorts and a halter in an ethnic print. When she reached the top of the stairs, Heath sucked in a breath. The walls and steps faded, replaced by a fire escape on the exterior of a brownstone building. She kicked the release and started a descent down the metal rungs. Halfway down, the scene changed again, the stone altered to an ornate, gilded interior with lush, carpeted steps, and Vivica now had an elaborate up-do in a shade of chestnut that complemented the emerald green sheath and matching shoes she wore. She reached the bottom and made her way toward Heath, grasping his hand in greeting.
Heath shot a sideways glance toward Jarvin. "Okay, very impressive. I won't even bother asking how, because frankly, I don't care. It's enough to know it's possible." He turned toward Romy and noticed the room had gone back to its original decor. "You never cease to amaze, Rom. One of the many reasons I love you."

Get Hooked: Reel in a Great Book—Cupid's Curse #MFRWAuthors #MFRWHooks

While Cupid's Curse isn't set around Valentine's Day, it is about cupids and making perfect matches.

This week, we see a little of how the curse affects Arch.

Series Tagline: When gods and mortals play together… the result is often unexpected.

Book Tagline: Cursed by the god of love, Archer Stewart, a Cupid of the First Order, knows exactly who to blame—his fellow cupid, Bree Daniels.

~*~

Arch laid on the bed in agony. He'd passed the skull-splitting migraine stage and had entered into the hellish zone of the next phase—a non-stop hard-on. The headache receded into a continuous dull throb, but remained constant reminder of his curse.
How could it possibly be a week since Bree had arrived? What in Aphrodite's name was taking the woman so long? Arch's cock felt like it would break in two at any moment.
He sat up slowly, willing the stiffness between his legs to subside long enough so he could stand. The pound of the headache settled in with a thrum along his hairline and at the base of his neck. He had to find out what the hell Bree planned to do about finding a match.
Slowly, trying not to stimulate his hard length too much, he made his way to the grotto. Bree sat on the chaise, filing her nails, looking rather fetching in a red micro mini and form fitting, white T-shirt. Her feet were bare and the racy candy apple-colored polish on her toes drew attention to her well defined legs.
Arch had a thing for those legs. Especially when she wrapped them around him, urging him to pound her harder.
Not a good place for his thoughts to go right now. He'd rather live with the pulsating, radiating throb of his dick than get tangled up with Bree again.
Clearing his throat, he got her attention. "Filing your nails? I thought you were working hard to find someone."
Bree continued scraping the edge of the emery board across the blunt tips. "Oh, I haven't found anyone yet. Just taking a break."
Arch saw more red—the bold hue of his anger. "You're what?"
Bree narrowed her eyes. "You heard me. I know you're not deaf." She switched hands, her right foot tapping up and down in rhythm with the file.
"You know what happens to me when I go too long without making a match. You don't have time for taking breaks."
She shrugged. "There's no one out there that appeals to me."
Arch made a garbled, choking sound. "They're not supposed to appeal to you, Bree. You just have to find someone who needs a mate." He took two steps forward, ready to strangle her.
Bree held up a finger, knowing his intent. "I wouldn't. You'd just have to wait for someone to be called in to take my place." She went back to smoothing off non-existent hangnails.

Series Blurb: Welcome to a world where gods and goddesses of various pantheons mix and mingle with mere earthly mortals—often with unexpected results. Deities can't seem to help themselves and have to meddle with their human counterparts. Sometimes the godly being offers much needed assistance, but occasionally they lash out and cause harm.

But mostly, the amalgamation of deified power and human nature combines to be highly entertaining.

Book Blurb: Archer Stewart, a Cupid of the First Order, suffers the wrath of Eros when he nips the wrong woman with an arrow. Cursed by the god of love, Arch spends his days making perfect matches or he had to deal with some unpleasant consequences.

Bree Daniels is indirectly responsible for Arch's predicament and seeks advice from Aphrodite, hoping to find a way to make amends. After almost two years apart, Bree finally realizes Arch is the man she wants and she's willing to risk her immortality to set him free.

Flora got up and walked around to the back of the couch. Her cool hands massaged his temples and he groaned at the additional relief they provided.
Stupid damn curse.
"Hey, at least the more unpleasant aspect of your predicament didn't kick in." Her hands stilled on his head. "But I would've been happy to help you out if it had taken any longer." She reached down and gave his shoulders a squeeze.
Flora's reference to the worst part of the curse almost made the headache come back.
Arch glanced up. "I appreciate the sentiment, Flo." He grasped her hand in thanks. "But something tells me Martin might come after my head if you ever provided assistance in that area."
She came back around and dropped down beside him.
"Being on the god of love's bad side is quite enough, thanks." He sighed.
Flora nodded. "Eros certainly holds a grudge. And Martin would be more understanding than you think, especially when you pretty much have no choice—once things progress that far."
Arch grimaced. He hated that aspect more than anything.
"Has it ever…? Got to that point for you?"
Twice. In the eighteen months since Eros had cursed him, Archer had been near out of his mind two times. If two days passed without a match being made, the headaches started. At five days, the pounding in his brain took on epic proportions. Seven days without a perfect hook-up and the nastier side-effects kicked in. Arch got a raging hard-on that wouldn't go away, unless he masturbated for relief. By day ten, hand-jobs no longer worked—only sex with penetration would provide a solution. The two times he'd reached that point, he'd been lucky enough to have willing participants within an easy call. The couplings lacked finesse—he'd been near out of his mind in pain—and word spread quickly, rallying the other cupids and encouraging them to make their matches in a timely manner.
Arch shuddered. "Flo, I'd rather not talk about it."

Since the holiday season is gearing up, I'm sharing a series of excerpts from A Little Yule Magic, coming soon. Over the next few weeks, I'll post a few pivotal scenes between Sygin and Boyd.

This week, another hint of what's going on.

Book Tagline: A Little Yule Magick is needed to get the holiday off on the right start.

~*~

Boyd received a split second premonition and caught Zack just before he entered the garage. "Hold up. Something's not right." He held a finger to his lips and quirked a brow, hoping Zack understood.
Zack nodded and moved behind Boyd then flattened against the wall to provide backup if needed. Boyd cracked the door ajar and swept his gaze back and forth. Noxious fumes hit his nose and he coughed before hitting the button to open the garage bay door. The van sat, running with its lights on, but Boyd didn't see Ethan anywhere. A brisk wind cleared the space and Boyd turned to Zack, motioning for him to remain behind and quiet. The young man inclined his chin in acknowledgment.
Boyd entered the large area. "Ethan? What's up? Leaving the van running in a closed space is dangerous, man." He walked the perimeter of the large bay before stooping down to look under the bus. Nothing.
Snow blew in from the outside and Boyd got up, crossed the concrete floor, and hit the button to close the door. "Zack, come on in. We've got a problem."
Zack peered around the corner. "You didn't find Ethan, did you?"
Boyd shook his head, grabbed the intercom handset, and waited for the tone to sound before speaking. "Sygin, pick up the nearest comm, please."
Her voice met his ears a few seconds later. "Yeah, Boyd, what's up?"
He motioned for Zack to check inside the bus. "We found the van running, but Ethan's gone. Do a headcount right now. Make sure no one else is missing." He quickly calculated how much time had passed since Ethan left the residential area.

Since the holiday season is gearing up, I'm sharing a series of excerpts from A Little Yule Magic, coming soon. Over the next few weeks, I'll post a few pivotal scenes between Sygin and Boyd.

This week, we get a hint of danger.

Book Tagline: A Little Yule Magick is needed to get the holiday off on the right start.

~*~

While Boyd took his turn in the shower, Sygin dressed and pondered Yule. She and Boyd had the estate pretty much to themselves—as they had for the past five years—with the maintenance guy, Bart, heading out last night along with Anna, the cook, and Cat, the cleaning wonder-woman—who kept the huge four-story, three winged house spotless. Yeah, she used her magick skills, but Sygin got exhausted just thinking about the amount of work the lady accomplished in a day.
Two other adept apprentices, who helped with the coursework, left before dawn for their homes. With trouble brewing, the staff and students always traveled in pairs or groups—except for the elder in residence. A grand mage, he didn't enter or leave by conventional methods, just let Boyd know he wouldn't be around until after the beginning of the year. He'd spend the holiday on sabbatical, in a sacred dwelling only the highest ranking members knew about.
She exited their suite and contemplated how much longer she and Boyd could keep their traditions. They had several, aside from her fried honeycakes. Finding the Yule log together always created fun, and they usually dragged a huge piece in so it lasted throughout the three day celebration. Boyd made wassail—her personal favorite, because they drank the brew in bed, toasting accomplishments and new goals. But mainly, they enjoyed the quiet solitude of being together, making love whenever they wanted and reaffirming their connection.
How much longer would she and Boyd have the luxury of time? She'd been a toddler when the Unified Clan split into two factions. Her family followed the teachings of the light—health, healing, help, and heart. The other side dwelled on the dark arts, malice, mayhem, malevolence, and often… murder. But they'd kept a low profile, until recently, and Sygin couldn't quite grasp why rumblings were happening now.

Coming Soon!

Book Tagline: A Little Yule Magic is needed to get the holiday off on the right start.

Boyd Lagassi shifted his position and dragged Sygin Ball up to straddle his thighs. "I want your famous fried honeycakes." His mouth closed over her nipple and he flicked his tongue back and forth.
Sygin moaned low in her throat. "Famous only because it's one of the few things I can make and not screw up." She rocked forward, lifting her hips and pushing backwards onto his hard shaft.
Boyd closed his eyes, relishing her warm heat. "And it's tradition. Five years and counting." He flexed his thighs then relaxed and let Sygin control the pace.
She kicked up the speed, her hands planted firmly on his chest. He opened his eyes, loving to watch Sygin. Her passion for him took his breath away, her expressive face showing every nuance, her gaze going darker, the green irises going from a soft leafy color to a deep pine shade.
Her hips rolled back and forth, her breaths coming in short little bursts. Not long now, for either of them. Boyd slid his hands down to cup her ass, urging her forward. Her fingers curled into her palms, the knuckles grazing his skin, digging in to his flesh. He welcomed the mild discomfort, needing the edge to hold off, wanting his release to follow hers.

Book Blurb: Sygin and Boyd, adept mages, are looking forward to their winter break, being alone in the big manor for Yule is their most cherished tradition. But a series of mishaps may keep them from their celebratory festivities.

Get Hooked: Reel in a Great Book—An Idyllic Affair (Insula Ara ~ Sanctuary Island) #MFRWAuthors #MFRWHooks

Welcome to Book Hooks, the weekly smorgasbord sampler hosted by the MFRW Authors Blog.

Readers: get hooked and reel in some great books. Authors are sharing short excerpts from their work. Please enjoy and consider picking up the full book by clicking on the buy link.

This week I'm thrilled to announce an upcoming release that is co-written with my alter ego ML Skye. I write under three pseudonyms, and when I started An Idyllic Affair, it began with a strong sci-fi element. But as the story progressed, the nature of the island pushed its way in and a mystical aspect took center stage. For branding purposes, I decided to release under ML Skye, my speculative romance moniker, and Skye Ritchey, my paranormal / fantasy pen name. I'm very excited as I believe the story will appeal to both audiences.

This week, I'm featuring a fun interaction between Geoff and Linnea.

Series Tagline: Escape to Insula Ara, an island sanctuary that provides refuge… but it comes with a price.

Book Tagline: On the run from their enemies, an island sanctuary gives Geoff and Linnea time for An Idyllic Affair.

Cursing the restricted area, Geoff angled his legs down through the passage and attempted to leave enough space for Linnea's to fit. She gingerly tried to put both feet in first. When that didn't work, she grabbed his shoulder and got her left leg situated but couldn't manage the right.
Geoff tried to give her more room. "Sorry, X. I've got nowhere to go here." He shifted his hips, creating maybe one more inch.
Linnea chuckled. "Just give me a sec. If I put my hand here…" She braced her fingers against the tank. "And then lay my head on your shoulder, I think I might… oh, yeah. That's feeling just about right."
Geoff couldn't believe the way she could contort her body. "God, X, that's perfect." But they'd need room to kick the panel out. "Okay, almost there. Lift your thigh a little. Yeah, put it right between mine." His grunt sounded more like a groan when she followed his direction and brought her leg up, wedging it up close to the apex of his groin. "Almost there, Linn. Angle your hips a little. Yeah… that's it."
Linnea fisted her hand in his shirt, twisting it hard. "Sorry, Captain. Need just a little more… there! Right there."
Marcus cleared his throat. "Uh, geez, you two. You're making Willoughby turn an unhealthy shade of crimson out here. Do you have any idea how you guys sound?"
Shane sputtered and coughed. "I am not turning red." He waited a beat. "But Ramsey's got a point. If I didn't know better, I'd think you guys were… well…" His voice trailed off.
A little frustrated and a whole lot of uncomfortable, Geoff shot back. "Trust me, if the XO and I were having sex, it would not sound like this." Exactly how it would, he didn't know, but his imagination could fill in the blanks later.
Linnea snorted and offered her two cents. "Mainly because the captain and I wouldn't be having carnal relations." She paused then added. "Now, or anytime in the foreseeable future."
Geoff frowned. Did she always have to be so emphatic about the potential of them never hooking up?

Linnea moved slowly, her steps dragging when time seemed to slow down. "Care to tell me where the hell we're going? It doesn't even look like it's in this galaxy."
Geoff raised a single eyebrow. "It's not. That's the beauty of it."
She felt like the deck dropped out from under her. "Captain. Geoff… where, exactly, are you taking us?"
He directed his gaze back to the holograph. "Old Earth."
If she'd started floating in suspended animation, she wouldn't have been surprised.
She couldn't have heard him right.
Old Earth?
Well, hell. Did he really think they could find sanctuary on some crazy island that might or might not exist? The one he loved to tell stories about?
Everything stopped for a second then snapped back to real time.
Linnea didn't know if the queasy feeling in her stomach came from the jump or finding out they'd left the galaxy.
Both, she decided.
"Captain, are you sure this is a good idea?" Linnea slid her gaze toward the man, making sure to keep one eye on the monitor in front of her.
Geoff raised an eyebrow in question. "You doubt me, XO?" He picked up his excited pacing, striding back and forth across the command deck of the Charming Lady.
Linnea snorted. They wouldn't be sanctioned smugglers if any of the crew doubted him. "It's not about that. Facts are facts. I never doubt them."
And Geoff knew it. He'd chosen her as his executive officer and second-in-command for that very reason.
"I do, however, question myth and legend… and that's all you've got." She sometimes envied the fact he only needed those.
