Sunday Snippet: Consortium of Chaos (a Chaos novella)

February kind of flew by, which isn't actually a big shock since it's a short month anyway. But, man, I kind of wish it went by a little slower. I'm always scrounging around for time and short months make me feel like there's less to be had.

Still had trouble focusing this week but I got a lot accomplished on my work projects despite my distraction. Luckily, I have more than one project going so I can hop around when I start to lose my concentration.

Had an okay week of viewing. I have to figure out what's going on with one of my streamers. That could take another week. But I did get through most of my usual shows.

Started with My Life Is Murder and actually got two episodes watched. I like the pickup with Alexa's brother again. I wondered if we'd see him this season. Also enjoyed both cases Alexa had to solve.

Watched the first part of Agatha Raisin. Poor James. I can't wait to find out who offed his bride. I love the interaction between all the characters, but I'm sad Roy isn't in this one. At least not yet.

Caught another episode of Silent Witness. Kind of enjoyed having another case mixed in with the ongoing saga of Sam Ryan. I'm really not sure what's going on with her and I'm not going to be super surprised if she ends up being in the clear. Also loved Nikki and Jack's date. Nice to get some backstory with Simone, too.

Enjoyed an episode of Death in Paradise. I remember bits of this one and I'm glad I got to see the whole thing from start to finish. Not a bad opening for season six.

Watched another episode of Elementary. I liked seeing Sherlock realize he'd way overstepped with the NYPD. Also loved having the captain kind of take some of his dignity back.

Caught another episode of The Batman. I'm not as fond of this season and I remember feeling this way when I watched originally. The new format grew on me, and I'll settle back in and enjoy, but I really loved the first season of this show the most.

Enjoyed the penultimate episode of The Secret Life of Amy Benson. Everything is coming to a head, and I can't wait to see how this ends.

Also rewatched the Battlestar Galactica resistance webisodes. Groundbreaking at the time, there's a lot of story packed into ten mini-episodes. And twenty years later, I'm still stunned at how prescient the writers were for what's going on in the world today.

And that's pretty much it for the life update this week. Tonight's post is from Consortium of Chaos, a novella in my chaos series.

Here's the miniblurb:

A missing brother, a madman's sinister plot to make a perfect world, and a connection so strong it saves a life hundreds of miles away. Ashton Sylvester and Esme Von Staunton never have a dull moment.

And a preview snippet…

Ash became unsettled as soon as Esme launched. His weird sixth sense all but screamed a warning that something didn't feel right.

Smithers picked up on Ash's unease. "Can I do anything, sir?"

Ash heaved a sigh. "How about you drive me to the meeting and poke around in the shops, while I try to stay awake."

Smithers gave him a bland smile. "You have the shorter end of the stick this time."

Ash couldn't disagree, especially sitting in on another session of the Consortium of Mining and Minerals. He only listened with half an ear because he didn't give a damn about any of the drivel slated for discussion. Sadly, keeping up appearances had become a necessary evil.

Esme would be the first to remind me of that.

While the forechair droned on, Ash let his mind wander. Intelligence reports came in slowly and he needed to remedy that issue. It might be time to take on a little more risk and use the zeppelins. He'd held back on that front because piracy was rampant in the skies.

A moment of guilt hit him. If he'd used them previously, they could've discovered the camps a lot sooner. Maybe prevented the infestation of the horrible places. Kept good people from being forced to work in the mines.

Like Esme's brother.

Ash wondered if she'd made contact with Eric yet. He cast a quick eye to his time piece. He'd know in a few hours. Grayswander would send a communiqué soon.

The forechair switched the topic over to the sale of Olympus.

Ash narrowed his eyes in anger. It was a touchy subject for him. He'd voted against the mining of the mineral until more research could be done. But the limitless potential for energy derived from the refined ore had the consortium too lathered up to wait. Once it had been discovered that in its unrefined state the rock had mind-altering properties, Ash presented a motion to halt all mining until proper safety methods could be put in place.

The members got a whiff of how they could create a new market for usage … and the more dubious members of the consortium wanted to not only keep the mining of the mineral but also made the decision to make it available to the masses. Until they understood the complex nature of the meteor rock, Ash thought it should be used only for medical purposes in its unrefined state.

Needless to say, he'd been outvoted.

The damned stuff would be society's downfall. The desire to turn a profit won out over the potential hazards Olympus presented. That kind of greed and avarice sickened Ash. Maybe he couldn't dissuade the trade for the stuff, but he could influence safe practices in the mining operations and refining processes.

Even though the council would fight him tooth and nail.

And the man leading the charge would be Mobride.

It didn't make sense. Why would he or anyone in consortium object to providing respirators to the workforce? Olympus had proven dangerous in raw form. Once processed, it lost its unstable and narcotic effect.

The answer hit Ash like a hydrohammer.

And he did not like it.

He almost interrupted the proceedings and demanded confirmation but thought better of it. He should do some stealthy digging around first.

If Ash had guessed correctly, the contrivance angered him. He might not be able to dissuade the trade of Olympus, but he would use influence and demand safe practices in the mining operations and refining processes. He didn't give a hang how it affected the bottom line and profits of the society.

He knew in his bones, he'd guessed correctly. Someone—a very big someone—in the council didn't want safe working conditions for the workforce. Instead, their preference would lean more toward fast consumption with minimal output. Hook the workers on the stuff and they didn't care how dangerous the job would … or if they got paid.

Keep the supply flowing and create more demand when the wage-earners became addicted to the Olympus. Pay them less—they wouldn't care—and hell … the plan actually came across as rather brilliant.

And damned evil.

And Ash would find a way to stop it.

I'm having so much fun writing this series. It's got a steampunk flair but doesn't dive completely into the genre.

That's it for this week.

Cheers!

Sunday Snippet: Calamity of Chaos (a Chaos novella)

Still bitterly cold in Ohio, but by midweek, we'll see high forties and low fifties and lots of rain. We're going to have a lot of sick people in the near future. The back-and-forth weather is horrible for keeping folks healthy.

Busy work week again, which I'm so thankful for. I'm also working on my new venture and should have news soon. I'm hoping by February.

Decent viewing week. I didn't quite make a full run-through of all my shows, but I got very close.

Started with My Life Is Murder again. Very interesting episode with some fun backstory. I love getting more information about the characters.

Watched a holiday episode of Agatha Raisin. This one kicked off season four and it ended up being a lot of fun. I loved the mix of characters.

Finally continued my rewatch of Battlestar Galactica with the feature of Razor. We had to backtrack a little to pick up with this one. I'd forgotten how much I loved Lee in this special feature.

Caught an episode of Silent Witness, which finished up a two-parter. I feel for Jack, and I loved getting some more details about his family. I feel for what Ryan's been through, but I'm glad Jack is finished covering for his brother.

Watched another episode of Death in Paradise. This is another episode I didn't get to see, and I quite enjoyed following the clues. Looking forward to another episode

Enjoyed another episode of Elementary. Lots of twists and turns in this one. Also loved Joan trying to find Sherlock a sponsor and him not quite being able to just say he doesn't want her to leave at the end of her contract.

Caught the final episode of The Batman season one. Excellent finale with three of the big bads trying to unmask Batman. Also loved the introduction of Commissioner Gordon. Looking forward to starting season two.

Watched another episode of Classic Rugrats. Both vignettes were ones I didn't remember so nice to have something new to me.

Started season two of The Secret Life of Amy Benson and rather liked the first episode. I'm a little curious how much book detail is being left out, but I don't think it takes away from what we're seeing.

Also started an episode of VIP but didn't get to finish it. I'm not even sure what's going on yet.

That's pretty much it for the life update this week. Tonight's post is from Calamity of Chaos, a Chaos novella.

Here's the miniblurb:

Esme and Ashton embark on a trip to America, on the trail of their nemesis's partner. Calamity ensues when they stumble upon a dastardly plot to keep them from returning home.

And a preview snippet…

Ash pulled Eric aside. "You're absolutely certain you won't join us?" He could delay the launch by a day.

Eric shook his head. "You've been asking me that for the past week. I'm not going to change my mind." He crossed the hangar and retrieved a bag from the pile being loaded into the ship's hull. "Besides, someone has to hold down the estate." His gaze drifted to the woman standing next to Esme. "And I won't leave Bonnie. Not until Mobride is no longer a threat."

Ash didn't blame Eric. Bonnie Lancaster risked her life to help Eric and saved Ash in the process. Eric found himself a stellar woman. The fact that Mobride used to abuse her during his brothel visits made her role in his downfall particularly contentious.

Eric stooped down and unlaced the top of the bag. "I do, however, have a couple of gifts for you. Already showed Del how they work." Reaching inside, he withdrew a rectangular slab. "This detects Olympus and will give a reading on how refined the ore is." He nodded toward the canvas satchel. "There's one for you, Del, Esme, and Smithers." He bent down again. "I also have something that might save time if you need to reach us over here." Holding a large box-shaped item, he opened the hinged top. "You'll need refined ore and a wide-open space, preferably someplace high up, to operate this device. The Olympus gives it a long range and I have the matching device in the carriage house." He tucked the communicator back inside the bag and refastened the laces.

Ash huffed out a breath. "You never cease to amaze. What else is in there?" He nodded toward the duffel.

Eric's lips twitched. "Some odds and ends. Del can fill you in." Rising, he jerked his head toward the rest of the group. "Let's get you guys boarded. Then I'm going to get Bonnie home and settled in." He started toward the others.

Ash fell into step beside Eric. "Does that communicator work both ways? Can you contact us if needed?" Moving Bonnie to the estate should afford the most protection, but Ash didn't count Mobride completely out.

Eric's lips curved. "Probably." His gaze darkened. "But I added some perimeter defenses to the estate, so I rather doubt we'll need to get ahold of you."

Ash chuckled. "I should've known you'd have things well in hand."

I'm having a lot of fun with this series. I'm not going full-on steampunk but I hope the vibe is there.

That's it for this week.

Cheers!

Sunday Snippet: Trip the Light Fantastic

Happy Mother's Day to all who celebrate. For me, this includes those who mentor others because being a mom isn't always about giving birth to a person or have fur babies.

Had another busy work week and I'm thrilled to have multiple projects to dig into. I love what I do and being freelance means being happy when the work is rolling in.

Had a limited viewing week with so many other things going on. I sadly lost one of my aunts I've been particularly close to and needed some quiet reflection time.

I did get the double-header of the last two episodes for the first season of Battlestar Galactica in, and they held up as being one of the most perfect season finales of all time.

I also finished up the episode of Only Murders in the Building. Gotta say I had a feeling the artist would do something creepy and she totally did.

Other than that, I watched my classic standby of Perry Mason and also caught some early seasons of Midsomer Murders.

That's pretty much it for the life update this week. Tonight's post is from Trip the Light Fantastic, a Chaos series novella.

Here's the mini-blurb:

Esme Von Staunton and Ashton Sylvester think they might be going insane. Ashton's weird attunement with Esme draws her into his bizarre nightmare of hallucinations and doing things neither remember. Esme's brother Eric stumbles onto a plot by Baron Mobride and races to save his source and his favorite couple, but Mobride has other ideas and doesn't plan to let Eric thwart him.

And a preview snippet…

Eric Von Staunton quietly entered the seductively lit room, his gaze drinking in the sight of Bonnie Lancaster while she lightly powdered the apples of her cheeks. "My gorgeous woman, you don't need facial enhancement. You're perfect as is." For six months he'd been visiting her and paying for her services.

But only to keep up appearances.

Bonnie swiveled around and leapt to her feet. "Eric! I'm happy to see you." She dropped the brush to her vanity and launched herself toward him.

He caught her in his arms and slanted his mouth over hers. He welcomed her enthusiastic response of a low moan in her throat. Long ago, he'd hoped to have a shot with her, but circumstances drove a wedge into that plan. He took up the fight against the horrific conditions most of the populace had to work under and Bonnie fell on hard times and took a position in the privacy rooms at the Emporium of Entertainment. By chance, Eric bumped into her when Ash sent Eric to ferret out some information. Their renewed acquaintance brought old feelings to the surface and Eric tumbled headlong into love with her again. Bonnie returned the sentiment but remained as a top draw at the emporium.

Bonnie eased away from him. "How long can you stay? Do we have the night?" She loosened the sash of her robe, easing it from her shoulders.

Eric nudged her toward the bed. "You're most definitely spoken for until dawn breaks over the horizon." He shrugged out of his jacket but stopped when she shook her head.

Her hands smoothed over his shirt. "Let me. I love undressing you." She made short work of undoing the buttons and sliding her palms against his skin. "It's like unwrapping a lovely present and revealing a longed-for gift." Pushing the garment from his body, she started on his pants.

Eric gave her free rein. He'd like her to leave the emporium, but he wouldn't press the issue. He couldn't offer her a home ... yet. He shared the carriage house on Ashton Sylvester's estate with Delphinius Dieter and they had a standing agreement to keep their romantic entanglements elsewhere. Eric didn't like accepting charity from Ash, and Esme argued with Eric about how Ash didn't consider Eric a burden. Ash appreciated Eric's brilliant ideas and liked to invest in sure bets, which Eric would happily accept. But he also wanted to make his own way. So … Eric had meetings about his inventions with manufacturers scheduled.

Bonnie cupped Eric's erection. "Time to turn your brain off, my love, and enjoy our precious time together." Her fingers circled his length then glided along his shaft.

Eric nodded. "You're right." He swept an arm under her thighs and scooped her up. "Starting right now." Depositing her on the bed, he pulled the laces of her camisole loose and helped her shrug out of the garment. "I hope you're ready for a long night…" His head dipped and he captured a taut nipple between his lips.

I'm so happy Eric is finally coming together. The sages weren't telling me what he wanted, and Bonnie ended up being exactly right for him.

That's it for this week.

Cheers!

Sunday Snippet: Quicksilver Flash

Whew. Finally recovered from our vacation and I'm back to work with multiple projects and a possible new venture in the near future. I'm super excited about it but still need to nail down some details and make some decisions on the setup.

As mentioned, I'm doing two weeks of catch-up on the life update and television viewing. While gone, I didn't watch a lot but I did get some screen time in.

I caught two more episodes of Strangest Things. I quite enjoy the approach the show takes in trying to solve the mystery of odd artifacts.

Started The Book of Boba Fett and watched two episodes. So far, I like what I'm seeing. It's a little hoppy with the back and forth of the timeline, but I'm following that without too much trouble.

I also started Only Murders in the Building and loved the first episode. I'm excited to see where the show goes.

Watched another MasterClass lesson with Roxane Gay. She did a writer's workshop and discussed finding common ground. Very interesting stuff with this lesson and I enjoyed.

Sobbed during the Babysitter's Club episode. I think I only have one left and I'm very sad there aren't going to be more. This is such a good show.

Finally had a chance to watch the Frankie Drake Mysteries special, "Music at Midnight" and I'm so glad I got to see it. This is another show I'm sad won't be coming back.

Caught another episode of The Ready Room. This one featured Michelle Paradise and recapped the penultimate episode of season two. Really fun interview.

I finished season three of Driven and loved the finale. I'm so glad Passionflix is starting a new series. They've done a great job so far.

Watched another episode of Chicago Med. I'm not sure but this might be my last season of the show. I enjoy it, but I might take a bit of a break.

Enjoyed another episode of Batman: The Animated Series. I love how the first season kind of explored a lot of different villains and they weren't always the big bads we've come to know and love.

Caught another episode of Ted Lasso. I'm three episodes in and I'm enjoying the show. It's a tiny bit campy and I like that aspect.

Watched another episode of The Agatha Christie Hour. Very interesting conflict in this one and fun to see an uber-young John Nettles as one of the stars.

Started a new two-part Silent Witness. I actually have no idea where this one is going and I kind of like that. I do suspect the old and new cases will converge in a nasty way. Per usual.

Began a new Classic Who arc. For some reason the Psychic Circus is sticking out in my mind but I don't think I've actually seen these episodes. I'll know more next week.

That's pretty much it for the life update this week. Tonight's post is from Quicksilver Flash, a story with a bit of a steampunk flair where the characters have to work together to solve the mystery of quicksilver flash.

Here's the mini-blurb:

Winsome Crown, a scientist's daughter, searches for her lost father in the wilds of the mountains. Lynx Hadrington lives alone and away from society—by choice. When Winsome stumbles onto his little piece of sanctuary, he can't deny her plea for help, but he fears the worst for her dad. Only one person has ever survived a brush with the quicksilver flash—him.

And a preview snippet…

Winsome woke up to the smell of something wonderful.

Stretching, she sat up and blinked, trying to remember what happened. A series of snapshots clicked in her brain. The cryptic letter from her dad. The breadcrumb clues she'd pieced together after he'd stopped sending updates. Then finally finding his guide only to have her hopes dashed again. And then … basically passing out from sheer exhaustion.

Struggling to sit up, she winced when her head pounded. "Dammit. I don't have time for this." Her gaze landed on the glass of water and pain killers. "At least he's thoughtful." Even if he absolutely didn't want her here.

Swiping the tablets, she washed them down and drained the contents. Easing to the edge of the bed—his bed, no doubt—she swung her feet over the edge of the mattress and tested standing up.

The room swam but she stayed upright. Okay, she got her feet under her. Now to try walking.

Taking a step forward, she wobbled a little, but kept going. With the glass in her hand, she made her way to the door and poked her head out into the living area. Finding the room empty, she carefully crossed to the kitchen and rinsed her glass out.

The smell coming from the stove had her stomach growling. Something bubbled in a pot and she leaned in closer to get a whiff of the savory aroma. Wavering on the cusp of being rude and helping herself or remembering her manners, she debated internally whether to reach for one of the bowls on the shelf.

A blast of cold when the door opened had her gaze going to the living area instead.

Lynx stomped his feet outside then entered, carrying a pile of logs. He dropped them into the box beside the door and shrugged out of his coat. After he hung it on the peg, he turned and his eyes widened.

Swiping a hand over his head, he removed his hat. "You're awake." He crossed to the counter. "Hungry?"

She gave a nod. "Yes. Very." Backing up, she gave him room to move in the small area. "Thank you for the painkillers. My head is pounding."

He grunted. "Food and water should help with that." He spooned thick broth with chunks of chicken and carrots into a bowl and handed it to her. "Take a seat. I'll bring some bread and more water."

She settled at the table and resisted the urge to dive in to the food. The steamy tendrils wafting upward gave ample warning she'd burn her tongue if she tried to eat right away. Her mouth watered with anticipation.

Lynx brought the items then went back to get a dish for himself. "How long has it been since you heard from your dad?" He broke the crusty loaf in two and placed one half by her bowl.

Her hand shook when she picked up her spoon. "Three months." She put the utensil down and picked up the bread. "I know something's wrong and I fear the worst." She had to decide how much to share with him.

Lynx frowned. "As you've experienced, the weather is unpredictable out there. He might not have been able to get word out to you." He broke off several pieces from his half of the loaf and sprinkled them over his stew.

Winsome folded her hands in her lap. "The weather doesn't matter. You see, I can sense something is wrong." She held his gaze for a moment then looked away. "I'm linked telepathically with my dad."

I'm having so much fun with this story. I love making characters who don't want to be involved with each other get involved.

That's it for this week.

Cheers!

Sunday Snippet: Consortium of Chaos

Hello, March! It seems weird that a year ago next week, I went out with friends to celebrate birthdays and a week later we started the state shutdown. It's been both the longest and shortest time span between the two. I'm not sure that makes sense, but it's definitely how the last twelve months have been for me. LOL

My middle kiddo, who is actually a grown adult, ended up being admitted to the hospital on Monday. He's got some health issues going on and he's really tired of trips to urgent care, the ED, and various doctors. I'm hoping he eventually gets a solid diagnosis and starts to find some relief soon.

Had another fairly busy week with work. My projects have slowed down a little since last June, which is a blessing and a curse. I like having more time to hit some side projects but I also like to stay busy so I don't lose my groove.

Not a bad week for television. I caught a couple episodes of Silent Witness. Season nine started on such a downer but one of the things I love about British dramas is how they explore the journeys characters take. US television doesn't do that as often.

Watched another episode of No Offence. I'm still enjoying this show. I like the overreaching arc of a serial killer and the case of the week stuff also. Good show.

I caught another episode of Peak Practice. I'm almost finished with the second season and I'm looking forward to easing back into this show on a regular basis.

For fun, I started watching The Muppet Show series. I remember experiencing the original run with my two brothers. It was one show we all agreed on and watched together without fighting. Brings back good memories.

Caught a binge marathon of Hawaii Five-0 and I'm almost at the point where I stopped watching regularly. Not sure if seasons eight through the end will be on, but I'll try to finish out the series.

Finally, caught another arc of Classic Who and started season fourteen. I can't remember how many seasons the fourth doctor had, but I think I'm at the halfway point.

And that's pretty much it for this week. Tonight's post is from Consortium of Chaos, the opening book of the Chaos series, which has a bit of a steampunk flair.

Here's the mini-blurb:

A missing brother, a madman's sinister plot to make a perfect world, and a connection so strong it saves a life hundreds of miles away. Ashton Sylvester and Esme Von Staunton never have a dull moment.

And a preview snippet…

Ash smiled. "I can absolutely do that." And without using his attunement skill.

Other than an occasional emergency, like the warming calm, he rarely gave free rein to his ability.

His fingers plucked at the buttons of her vest, one of her ingenious inventions. The pockets held all sorts of odds and ends. He pushed the heavy fabric off her shoulders and let it fall to the floor.

Esme leaned in and Ash caught her lips, working the buttons of her shirt loose. His mouth dropped down, ghosting along her throat before stopping to nuzzle her collarbone. Esme moaned, low in her throat, and her hands busied themselves removing his jacket.

Ash helped and shrugged out of the coat, but kept his hands on Esme. He craved the contact, fingers gliding down her arms, sliding the thick cotton shirt along with them. It hung by the cuffs at her wrists and he trailed nibbling kisses along each arm before working the cuffs off her hands.

He skimmed his fingers along her sides, then slid the thin straps of her camisole over her shoulders. Esme's impatient fingers freed the buttons of his shirt and Ash dipped his head to snag her lips again. Her mind filled with need and he decided not to toy with her any longer. He tugged the ribbon in the center of her camisole, loosened the laces and spread the fabric to reveal her breasts.

Esme shivered, the cool air puckering the nipples. Ash cupped her breasts with the warmth of his hands and gently kneaded them. Hurried now, Esme shoved his shirt off his shoulders and dropped her hands to unfasten his trousers. Ash grinned. She always got in a rush when he wanted to slow things down.

He leaned in and whispered against her ear. "You're impatient, my love. We have all night." The pad of his thumb worried over a pebbled nipple.

Esme pushed his trousers past his hips and his cock sprang forward. "You're primed and ready, let's not waste time." Her hand wrapped around his length and applied firm pressure. Not enough to hurt, only to entice. "I want to stoke the fire while I can."

She loosened her pants, the ones Ash loved. He never cared how scandalized other got when she wore them. They hugged her curves and let his imagination run wild.

Esme tugged forward on his shaft and gave her hips a twist. The clinging fabric slid down her legs and pooled at her feet. She took his breath away.

The wanton look of her, chemise gaping open, breasts exposed, holding his cock in her hand, made him swell and harden. "Gads, Es. Stoke the fire much more and you won't achieve your goal for the evening."

She threw him a sly grin and kissed him hard on the mouth. "Oh, yes, Ash. I will." Her hands moved to his hips, drawing him closer.

He stepped out of his trousers, lifted her, and urged her legs to warp around his waist.

His cock nestled snug in the crease of her buttocks and her slippery wetness drenched his groin. "Mmm … you're very eager tonight, love." His hands moved to cup her ass. "Won't be able to make it last." His mouth met hers and he carried her to the bed.

He sat on the foot end of the mattress, Esme's hot center, heating his blood.

She broke the kiss and eased her head back. "Don't care if it's fast. I need you, Ash." She nudged him backward, planted her hands on his chest and lifted her hips.

Poised above his rigid shaft, her gaze held his, a myriad of emotions passing through her eyes. Desire. Need. Want. But most prominent … love. Ash understood her silent declaration and when he nodded Esme made a slow descent, enveloping his cock inch by inch.

She drew him in and held fast, squeezing her walls around his length. Ash moaned and lifted his head, crushing his mouth against hers. Esme rode him, slowly at first, but when his hands cupped her breasts, her hips rocked faster and harder, dragging them quickly to the edge of reason.

Esme broke the kiss, gasping for air, and tossed her head back. Her fingers curled into her palms and her hands pressed hard into his chest. Ash held on by a thread, wanting … needing her to break first.

Her hips twisted and he choked out a harsh breath. "God, Es. So close." He sucked in another breath and begged. "Come with me. Please." His thumbs brushed over her nipples and Esme tensed then shuddered, an orgasm rocking through her.

A little steamy but this scene came together better than I'd hoped. Esme and Ash are a joy to write.

That's it for this week.

Cheers!

Sunday Snippet: Quicksilver Flash

Well, another homecoming house party is in the books and I'm so thankful we had such a great group of kids to host over the last four years. A few faces came and went, but for the most part, the core group has remained the same. I'm looking forward to seeing what this group of kids ends up doing in the future.

It's been a crazy week with a ton of work projects coming in and I'm truly thankful to be busy. Sometimes my projects dwindle a little in the fall and that doesn't seem to be the case this year.

A limited week of television, but some good progress made. I started a new classic British series called Sapphire and Steel. It's pretty decent with some time-wimey elements.

I also started a new arc of Classic Who. I didn't realize quite how much of a role the Master had in the third doctor's run.

Caught an episode of Midsomer Murders and thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm almost through with series nineteen and have the final season to watch.

Watched another episode of Arrow and should be ready to start the new limited season eight in the near future. I started the penultimate episode but had to pause to get ready for homecoming. I'm going to miss this show so much when it's gone.

Also viewed an episode of Murdoch Mysteries and quite enjoyed it. I'm a little wary of what they're possibly doing with Julia, but we'll see how things go.

Finished up Frankie Drake Mysteries second season and look forward to starting the third. I'm pretty excited to see where things go from here.

Caught another episode of Riverdale. I can honestly say the whole farm thing really kind of annoys me. That said, this show tends to pull off a few twists that end up making me like what I didn't before. With the exception of Hiram. I love the actor but truly hate the character.

Also started another episode of Blue Heelers but have to pick it back up this week. Ran out of time to finish watching it.

That's pretty much it for television this week. Tonight's post is from Quicksilver Flash, a novella that got a start with a writing community prompt.

Lynx cradled the soft form of Winsome close to his chest. "I knew you'd be trouble. I knew it." Correction… his innate ability informed him.
Not for the first time, he cursed the day he met Wadsworth Crown and agreed to act as a guide for the man. Even if the professor ended up becoming a friend and confidant. They'd parted on amiable terms, but Lynx specifically asked the man to leave him out of any further expeditions and experiments.
Lynx picked Winsome up, carried her to his bed, and gently placed her on the mattress. "You are going to stir things up, aren't you?" More like stir him up.
He'd gone two months without glowing or shimmering. She walked in and within minutes, he'd reacted to her. Damn.
He smoothed the hair back from her forehead. "Hmm. You're overly warm. That shouldn't be, not after you've been out in those frigid temperatures." Loosening the top button of her flannel shirt, he checked her pulse.
Slow and steady with a hop every few beats. Probably exhausted and rundown. Moving to her feet, he unlaced her boots and slid them off, placing them beside the bed. He drew a blanket up and over her then exited the small room and crossed over to the kitchen tucked into the corner of the cabin.
Reaching into the fridge, he pulled out some leftover chicken and set it inside his one and only stock pot. "Some broth and plenty of fluids should get her fixed up right." And maybe shorten her stay.
Setting the burner to a medium-high temperature, he added some seasoning then filled a glass with water and carried it into the bedroom. After checking her once more, he got some pain killers, shook two out of the bottle, and placed them beside the glass.
He paused before leaving. She had Wadsworth's facial features but instead of a light hair color, hers had a deeply luxurious onyx color. Her mother must have been a raven-haired beauty.
Another gust of wind rattled the cabin walls and Lynx backed out of the bedroom. If he lost power, he might have to make the broth over the fire. The woman in his bed would need the sustenance when she woke up.
"And then she needs to be on her way… for my peace of mind."

This story is coming together nicely. I'm going for a bit of a steampunk flair and having fun adding those elements.

That's it for this week.

Cheers!

Sunday Snippet: Consortium of Chaos

Ugh, what a week. The crazy weather has me completely out of sync and my sleep patterns are trashed. Here's hoping spring gets here and I find my footing again.

I missed Legends this week and need to catch up. Same goes for The Flash, Black Lightning, and Riverdale. Seriously, my head wasn't into it at all. Gotham is also still on my catch up list.

I did watch two more DVDs of Chicago Fire. I'm really loving season five, through every heartbreaking moment even. And, man, there's been a lot this season. LOL

Also up to episode six of Jessica Jones. Gotta say I'm pretty happy with how the season is progressing. It's good to get the backstory of Jessica became "super". I will say I'm not quite sure about Griffin, friend or foe? The whole engagement think might be a red herring, yeah?

Got to catch the latest Passionflix movie The Matchmaker's Playbook. Loved it! I'm excited for the next installment, especially with W. Tyler Johnson. While I enjoyed him in Afterburn / Aftershock, he truly rocked in Matchmaker. Now if they'd only cast a few of my other fave actors, I'll be thrilled to death.

That's it for television this week. Tonight's post is from Consortium of Chaos, a Chaos novella with a steampunk flair.

Here's the mini-blurb:

Remy Deeds never welshes on a bet, until she loses to Eli Rogers, who can't understand why she backs out. But a five minute kiss, with tongue, isn't something she wants to risk, because giving up her last pack of coffee is so much easier than possibly losing her heart.

And a preview snippet…

Esme listened intently when Ash related the tactics of Baron Morbid while eating his light meal. The stalling and outright ham handedness had most of the council scratching its collective head. Not even the studious Smithers had answers for how Mobride rose to power so quickly or how the man managed to maintain such a tight rein on the proceedings.
Ash didn't expect Smithers to have solutions, but sometimes he saw things at their simplest, which usually helped. The citizens needed advocacy and Ash did his best to make sure they had a voice. Smithers and Esme helped behind the scenes, knee deep in the trenches.
Esme, in particular, walked a fine line. A fringe noble by birth, she chose to work in the service class instead of living in genteel poverty. Her father, the musician laureate for the crown, didn’t come from money. He'd lived and raised two children on the stipend granted by the Ministry of Arts, which ceased to exist when the monarchy lost control.
His older son already lost to him, Hamish Von Staunton sent his daughter off to train as a pilot for the newly developed zeppelins, something that set the peerage on its ear. Once she completed her first year, Hamish ended his existence with an overdose of unrefined Olympus. Alone, Esme completed her training and Ash recruited her at the commencement.
Her piloting skills were not only handy for transporting goods and equipment; they provided a nice cover for their more covert activities. Namely, trying to stay abreast of what the common people went through. As a pilot, she became one of them and folks opened up to her.
She'd been busy today, browsing the shops and keeping an ear to the ground. She added her observations to the conversation.
"I'm telling you, the people are tired." She picked at the crust of bread on her plate. "Tired of worrying about where their next meal is coming from. Where their loved ones are. And how they'll make ends meet." She rose and gathered the remnants of their meal. "And they're more than tired at the lack of anything resembling progress since the fall of the monarchy." Picking up the plates, she made her way to the counter.
Smithers shot her a withering look, which she ignored. Things were never more right in the world unless she found a new way to needle him. Doing something he felt was his domain proved a great way to do that.
And it had been a shit day so she'd take a small measure of enjoyment where she could.
Dumping the dishes in the wash basin, she turned to head back toward the table but caught movement in the small window off to the side of the kitchen. Peering out into the darkness, she couldn't make anything out, but a short series of knocks followed by two thumps on the side entrance had her quickly moving to the door.
"Es, hold up." Ash shot to his feet, reaching for the blade tucked into his boot. "Okay, go."
Esme pulled the door open and the heavy weight of a man collapsed against her, almost dragging them to the floor. "Argh. Ash! Gimme a hand here." She caught the guy under his arms and tried to keep him upright.
I'm very excited to put this series together. With a total of four books, the progress is coming along nicely.

That's it for this week.

Cheers!

Sunday Snippet: A Calamity of Chaos

Slow week in television due to the Olympics, but that's okay. I enjoy being a casual viewer of the coverage and there have been some terrific events. Watching Virture | Mior during ice dancing is such a joy. They're unmatched by anyone else.

Legends of Tomorrow returned on Monday and while I'm kind of "meh" about the move to a new night, I did love the episode. Nice to see the group dealing with Firestorm being gone. Also kind of cool to see Mick step into something of a leadership role, even if he'd never own doing it. LOL

I had the chance to catch up on my period dramas. Murdoch Mysteries is having some fun with Julia's pregnancy and I kind of like how she's dealing with everything. Frankie Drake Mysteries keeps getting better. I love the varied types of cases Frankie and Trudy get involved in.

Also caught another five episodes of Chicago Fire. Season four is diving into things on a much deeper level and I like where the characters are right now. It's been fun watching Severide pull himself back up from his demotion. I even sort of enjoyed Patterson figuring out what really matters at fifty-one. Not sure I'm totally down with him becoming a battalion chief but, yeah, I can live with it. LOL

I didn't get the chance to watch more of The Punisher, but I'll be catching some episodes this weekend. Also still need to watch the latest Riverdale before the show returns after the Olympics.

That's it for television this week. Tonight's post is from A Calamity of Chaos, a Chaos novella with a steampunk flair.

Here's the mini-blurb:

Esme and Ashton embark on a trip to America, on the trail of their nemesis's partner. Calamity ensues when they stumble upon a dastardly plot to keep them from returning home.

And a preview snippet…

"I'm asking, plainly I might add, if you'd like to spend the night in my bed." Anissa removed her jacket and hung it by the door along with her hat. "Are you sure you write articles for a living?" Her lips curved in a sexy smirk.
Del blinked and shook his head. The woman certainly liked to push boundaries. But the idea of spending a night with her held great appeal.
But first he had to salvage his wounded pride and protect his cover story. "Yes, I'm certain. I fully grasp the English language." And several others.
Anissa started undoing the buttons of her chambray shirt. "Then what seems to be the problem?" She walked toward him, her hips swaying gently. "You're a prime specimen of manhood. I have no doubt you'll make an impressive lover." Tugging the shirttails from her trousers, she let the shirt flutter to the floor.
Which left her in her chemise and rugged denim pants. Her curves on prominent display, he struggled to form coherent thoughts.
She quirked a brow. "What seems to be the problem?" Leaning in, she trailed a finger down his shirtfront.
His body responded to her touch, his cock hard and aching. "I'm a little taken aback by your forwardness." Only Esme came close to being as brazen.
The women would no doubt get along famously.
She found his declaration vastly amusing, tossing her head with a laugh. "Look, I'm not Miss Prim and Proper. Would I be riding around on a horse, shooting targets if I were?" She lifted a shoulder. "I go where I want and do what I want. With whomever I want. If you can't handle that, take your leave." She glanced toward the door, indicating he could go. "I make no apologies for the way I live." Turning on her heel, she strode to the wardrobe and yanked the door open.
Del crossed the space between them in two strides. "I didn't ask for any. Your life is yours to live however you see fit." He grasped her arm, turning her to face him. "You caught me off-guard with the invitation. I only know one other woman who has the wherewithal to boldly state her intentions and follow through on them." His lips curved. "She quite enjoys thumbing her nose at societal norms. You two would get along quite well."
Anissa's shoulders tensed. "I wasn't aware you're already spoken for. Consider my earlier suggestion off the table." Her mouth twisted in distaste.
Del threw his head back and laughed. "I have no claim on Esme. That headache belongs to her partner Ashton Sylvester." He skimmed his palms up to her shoulders. "I'm currently unattached. And… if your offer still stands…" He lowered his head, his mouth hovering over hers. "I'd very much like to spend the night with you."

I truly need to sit down and finish writing this series. I love the characters and the settings and the sages are usually generous with the words once I dive back into the pages.

That's it for this week.

Cheers!
