Sunday Snippet: That Explains Everything

September is off to an okay start. Still feeling a little off … not really frustrated more like being stuck in limbo yet feeling like there's something that needs to be done. It's weird.

Had several thunderstorms roll through, which did a lot of back and forth with the temperatures. Today is cool and sunny, but midweek was steamy hot. Pretty sure it'll get to boiling again in the near future.

Not a bad work week. Finished up the proofread and started a new copy edit. I had a great call with a new author, and I'll be starting on a manuscript evaluation this week. Really excited about this book. Also had some breakthroughs on several of my WIPs, which is always a bonus!

Had a decent viewing week. I made it through my usual slate of shows and binged some Death in Paradise again. This show has kind of nudged Midsomer Murders out of the top spot of my go-to shows.

Started the week off with Marple and, again, I really enjoyed the mystery. Kind of fun to see Tommy and Tuppence in their later years.

Watched another episode of Britain's Most Scenic Counties. I enjoy seeing all the green areas in Kent. Also loved seeing the different types of boating available.

Caught another Beyond Paradise. Loved that Kelby's girl actually made it to Shipton Abbot. Kind of hated the awkwardness of the dinner party Anne threw with Mister Smith. But I loved the vague ending when Humphrey went to confront Smith with his decision. Methinks Smith let something very important slip during the dinner. Can't wait to see if I'm right.

The Halloween themed episode of Poirot ended up being such a fun ride. Well, as fun as murder can be anyway. So many twists and turns.

Elementary ended up being pretty interesting. I'm kind of holding my breath with the small clues and hints about the possible serial killer luring Sherlock into a dangerous situation. Also kind of interested in Joan's situation with becoming a mom.

Watched another episode of Young Justice. Thoroughly enjoyed the fallout from the training exercise and also loved seeing Connor interact with the New Genesis team.

Caught another episode of Star Trek Lower Decks and once again loved it. This show is so good.

That's it for the life update this week. Tonight's post is from That Explains Everything, a novella that puts the heroine in the middle of three men with only one having her best interests at heart.

Here's the miniblurb:

Tasha Yale wants Brax Vermillion but can't seem to break her connection to Staz Yarrow—until she's taken by Lanai Conns. Finally aware of the nefarious machinations, Tasha fights to get back to her clan and Brax … before it's too late.

And a preview snippet…

Tasha woke up and got her bearings. "What the hell?" Her head pounded, but she glanced around.
Wow. This is someplace really swank.
Ornately carved furniture in dark woods and walls in deep jewel tones of burgundy and blue all but shouted posh digs. The lighting cast dim shadows, enhanced by the ambient glow of a fire in a large hearth. The mantel held elegant cut crystal pieces in shades ranging from light periwinkle to dark sapphire.
Her fingers plucked at the bedcover made from some kind of sumptuous fabric with a thread count that made her eyes narrow. A shuffle of feet sounded on the plush carpet, drawing her attention. A tall, darkly attractive man came into her line of vision.
She blinked. "Who are you?"
He smirked. "All in good time, my dear." He perched on the edge of the bed but didn't invade her personal space.
All in good time? Not bloody likely.
She sat up. "No, now. Where's Staz?" And why did he bring her here?
Did he bring her?
The man's lips twisted. "On his way back home. He's got some damage control to do."
Everything came rushing back to her. The coffee. The blurry vision.
Tasha bit out a question. "Why am I here?" Her stomach roiled with anger and hurt.
The man shrugged. "Because I want you to be here. You are going to play a very important role in the future of our kind."
She scoffed. "Our kind? We're nothing special, more in tune with the universe maybe and able to manipulate certain forces to our advantage but still human just the same." What kind of asshole thought otherwise?
The man waved a hand. "You're wrong, Tasha. We're so much more, and you'll be the instrument that proves we're meant to rule this planet." He reached out and traced a finger along her cheekbone.
She snorted. "What kind of drugs have you been creating?" And how much of his supply did keep out for himself?
His nostrils flared in anger. "I don't create drugs. I have the ancient tiding to back up my claim." He spit the words out.
Her eyes widened. "The tiding is a myth. No way does it actually exist." But something shifted inside her, a door creaked open and she recognized the truth.
But she wouldn't be used by some jackass to further an agenda she wanted no part of.
Her creepy host smiled, guessing her thoughts. "You'll come around. Give it time."
She pressed her lips together in a flat line. Like hell.

I love where this story is going. It's coming together exactly as I hoped.

That's it for this week.

Cheers!

Skye
